CHIT CHAT

The freindly Telephone Information / Alert Service.  The "Chit Chat" Project looks at enabling older people to pro-actively participate in improving the quality of community life, allowing people to create a new vision for their community, to protect the things they value and harness the strength of the community to act for change.

Once registered with the service a client will receive a daily weekday call at an agreed time.  The call will be a freindly chat to enquire about the well being of the individual as well as providing useful information on local events and services.  The service also reponds to a "no response" telephone call by having a nominated friend or relative check on the well being of the client.

The project acts as a conduit for health information, benefit advice and local interest information to be accessible to older people, and acts as an advocacy service to ensure that the services to older people are enhanced.

The "Chit Chat" Project aims to promote independent living and reduce isolation.  The Project works in partnership with other sgencies to promote the social economic welfare of older people, developing self help initiatives and promoting autonomy.

"Chit Chat" relies heavily on volunteers, if you have a few hours to spare and would like to be involved, please contact Lorraine on 028 686 28759.
