ACCESS ARC CHILDREN’S CONTACT & EMOTIONAL SUPPORT SERVICE
The ARC Healthy Living Centre currently delivers services to over 1,400 children and families many of whom are living in areas of high deprivation, we offer a range of core services all aimed at addressing inequality in health and promoting positive wellbeing. All of our programmes and services are developed in response to identified need, and as we have had a number of requests for the provision of child contact services we have as a consequence conducted a needs assessment exercise in an effort to establish how the charity might support the establishment of children’s contact services within Fermanagh. Initial findings indicate that: Fermanagh currently has no children’s contact service and the need has been identified by families, courts services, social services and the National Association of Child Contact Centres. The ACCESS Project aims to help children to maintain contact with the non-resident parent and other family members when a family has separated. The breakdown of a family is often traumatic for all concerned but none more so than the children involved. The proposed service aims to facilitate contact and to support the child through the provision of specialist child counselling and play therapy service. Relationship breakdown affects all parts of our communities, children affected come from all cultural, ethnic and social economic backgrounds, the main beneficiaries’ of the ACCESS Project will be children and young people. The ACCESS Children’s Contact Service will provide a safe, friendly and neutral place where children of separated families can spend time with one or both parents, and sometimes other family members. It will be a child-centred environment that puts the need of the children first and offers emotional support to the child dealing with contact and separation. The project will facilitate contact between a child and those parents, or significant others, with whom they no longer live. The service will be staffed by a project co-ordinator, a play development worker and a team of trained supported volunteers, the service will deliver child and family support services in partnership with the Western Health and Social Care Trust Gateway and Courts Children's Service. ARC are currently actively progressing this initiative and welcomes comments or feedback from the community. Please contact us if you wish to share your opinion as to the need for such a provision within Fermanagh.
